A strong social media presence is imperative these days if you want a competitively ranking website. Both Google and Bing use these social media signals as a means of ranking factors, and conclude that the best way in which to generate these vital social media signals is by having a blog. Does your competitor have a blog? Use a little competitive intelligence and find out, and whilst you’re at it;

  • Check out how your competitors set their blog up
  • Are they regularly updating their
  • Are they using a WordPress platform (highly recommended by the way, think about that when you’re going to start your own blog if you haven’t already got one)
  • Do they routinely cross-link their blog with their website
  • Does their blog have lots of interesting and unique content
  • Are the blog posts open to comments and more incoming links
  • Are their blog posts optimized with social media buttons
  • Do they also use Twitter and Facebook
  • If so, how many followers do they have
  • Do they update these pages regularly
  • Is the content of these social media outlets directing their target audience towards links, comments, and ultimately prompting them to buy

Competitive intelligence and analysis can be long winded and complicated, but just by concentrating your immediate efforts onto the world of social media you really can start to make some headway into exactly why your competitors seem to be one step ahead of you at all times.
