Head Intelligence

Head Intelligence
“Use your head” – how many times have you heard that in your lifetime – at home, at school, in very many places and very many situations, I’ve even been guilty of using that particular phrase myself on occasion (although it’s not as good as the bloke who told his 2 year old son to “act his age” – I know because I was there, in fact, I live with them both!!!) But what does it really mean? Unless someone is shouting it from the sidelines at a soccer match, what they really mean is “use your brain or intelligence”. But what is intelligence? It’s actually quite a difficult question to answer you know. How many people do you know who are “extremely intelligent” (generally according to their mothers) but have little or no common sense at all. So is that the definition of intelligence? Being able to read or write a little earlier than the rest of the class, learning to tie ones shoe laces before the age of 5 – you know the sort of thing, or is intelligence something different?

The thing about intelligence is that it actually means different things to different people. Some people might think that intelligence is remembering lots of facts and (useless) information, but that’s really just a good memory isn’t it. Intelligence isn’t about what you know, or what you’ve been given, it’s about what you do with it that counts. . . well, that’s my opinion anyway. What’s yours?
