Lack of Intelligence

It’s a funny old world isn’t it? I mean, just think about it logically (or intelligently) for a moment. The majority of parents strive for their children to do “better than they did”, to do well at school, to pass exams and to make a success of their lives. With all of the innovative education methods which “experts” come up with year after year, all of this new found knowledge about  why and how to educate people who have certain learning difficulties, you’d think that the world ought to be getting smarter! Is it? I put it to you my friend that exactly the opposite is happening. I’m not saying that people are not as intelligent as they were, but many people simply don’t use the “sense they were born with” (as my old Gran used to say) and display an acute lack of intelligence in many different ways.

Many people don’t seem to think any more! The trouble is that what many people lack in intelligence they more than make up for in opinion.

A “friend” of mine (and I use the term loosely) has actually written off three touring caravans in separate road traffic accidents, but insists on packing them with all of the weight at the back because that’s how it should be. It doesn’t matter what you tell him, he knows he’s right (he went to a very expensive boarding school, not sure whether that has any bearing on it). Anyway, accident number four could be happening any time soon, just hope you’re not traveling in the opposite direction when it does.

Lack of intelligence can be a dangerous thing, because (and I have to be a bit careful here), it’s often those who display the most symptoms of it which actually shout the loudest and think that they’re right – all of the time. Many of the worlds greatest leaders have displayed a distinct “lack of intelligence” in some way or another, even if it’s only a temporary “intelligence by-pass” it can be dangerous for the rest of us. Now, we’re not all born with the same amount of intelligence, that’s obvious, but it only becomes dangerous when people think that they know it all and won’t listen to anybody else. I have a couple of acquaintances in mind, I’m sure you do too – we’d best just leave it at that shall we?
