Talking Intelligence

Talking Intelligence

Talking! Many of us love to do it, we love “the sound of our own voices” (much to the dismay of those around us). We can’t wait for our toddlers to utter their first words, and pretty soon afterwards we wish they’d shut up for just a moment. It’s how we communicate, it’s how we learn, it’s how we entertain ourselves, it’s how we socialize, it’s “good to talk” (borrowed that line from a commercial, never mind).

Talking Intelligence

What about talking intelligence then? Some of us are just naturally gifted at it, some of us get tongue tied whenever we are put under pressure or realize that people are actually listening to us.  People who have talking, or “linguistic intelligence” have the ability, some might say gift, of using and understanding the spoken and written word very well indeed. We can all do it, to a point, (well, we need to communicate) but some are just so much better at it than others. Some people with high linguistic intelligence find themselves drawn into doing things which will enable them to really express their abilities. People with talking intelligence are regarded by many to be among the most intelligent of our society, long words and large vocabularies impress us, those who have a “way with words” we imagine to be highly intelligent with an extremely active brain.

If you’re not that “word smart” then it really is worth trying to develop the skill for your future success at work, at play, in all walks of life. People will listen to you, they’ll take you more seriously and if you get tongue-tied talking to anybody other than your mother, then don’t despair, there are techniques which you can learn. You might never make a living as an after dinner speaker, but everyone has to start somewhere.
